- The Client: Terrestrial Records
- Our Role: Website Design / E-Commerce
Terrestrial Records is an independent music label based in Portland, Oregon. Their roster of musicians includes up-and-coming funk/soul acts from Michigan to San Diego, and a growing list of indie rock talent from the local music scene. With an interesting approach to the business relationship and a strong emphasis on Internet marketing, Terrestrial Records is preparing for growth in difficult market.
Resonant Media met the managing partners of Terrestrial Records in early 2007, and began a long-term strategic relationship that includes both general design and marketing development. By working with Terrestrial, we discovered our passion for writing and design in creative and entertainment industies. And as a direct result, we have aligned our goals to focus on creative services for music industries.
In 2004, Terrestrial Records purchased their domain name in anticipation of building a small independent record company. By 2007, the idea had neared fruition and needed a website. The label contracted with Resonant Media for the design and development of its web presence.
Our strategy was predicated on the fact that Internet development is a constant process. We quickly built a temporary solution, and proceeded to explore a comprehensive solution in the following months. Resonant Media developed a creative brief to help guide style, evaluated software to support Terrestrial’s infrastructure, and put together an intranet to facilitate internal communications.
After several stages of typographic, user-interface,and artwork concepting, we mutually settled on a simple, straight-forward layout. The result was a highly expressive design, using XHTML compliant code, and 100% table-less CSS layout. In the time since the beginning of site deelopment, our role has evolved to include complete design and maintenance of the technology platform, as well as implementation of the entire electronic storefront.
