The Process | The History

If Funk Rock Soul were a genre, Four Finger Five would be in it. Sometimes referred to as FF5, the distinctive sound of this relatively new adventure branches out from Motown and rock roots. Four Finger Five formed in 2003 from backgrounds in the jam band scene, and each member possesses a cog of talent which reveals a core of funk, jazz, and pop. Their effort and talent is worthy enough to have earned them a indie-label contract.

The band comes to us by way of our work with Terrestrial Records, and with the backing of a motivated team at the label, Four Finger Five is getting special attention to their album production, tour booking & promotion, and their visual professionalism. We are delighted to have met each of the band members in person during production of recent projects.

With the expectation that Terrestrial Records would be looking to polish the visual appeal of their band roster, work on Four Finger Five’s identity was nearly half complete before the band knew it had begun.

With a rough cut of a developing self-titled album in hand, we found inspiration and cohesion for the project. We researched the history behind FF5 influences and, over the course of a month, casually sketched concepts that surfaced as we worked on other projects. Nearly 40 concepts emerged. Towards the end of production on Four Finger Five, we met with lead singer/songwriter Joe Sturgill and presented our drafts.

Ideally, we envision every client falling in love with design, but this isn’t practical. We urged Joe to take our favorites back to the band and digest them. The suggestion was a critical one, as the band grew to love thorough magnitude of our best work.

See it.
